Judy was born on November 11, 1951, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Donald Sr. and Shirley (Zimmerman) Urbach. She graduated from Omaha Central High School and went on to nursing school. Nursing was more than a career for Judy; it was a calling. During more than 30 years in the profession, she cared for patients in settings ranging from pediatrics to nursing homes and hospice, bringing compassion to everyone she served.
On October 3, 1981, Judy married William (Bill) Kuhl in Omaha, where they made their home until 1992. Bill’s service in the U.S. Army took them to Missouri and Minnesota before they settled in Pierce, Nebraska, in 1997. They spent 25 years in Pierce before moving to Plattsmouth in 2022.
Anyone who knew Judy knew her kitchen. She loved to bake, especially cookies, and nothing made her happier than sharing her creations with family and friends. She found the same joy in giving gifts, with a knack for finding something useful, practical, or just plain interesting. She was also famous for never being able to wait. Birthday and Christmas presents often arrived a month early.
Judy and Bill proudly carried on a tradition begun by her father, enjoying the games and festivities of the College World Series. She also loved watching Husker football and the Kansas City Chiefs. Her faith remained important throughout her life, and she was most recently a member of First Lutheran Church in Plattsmouth.
Judy is survived by her husband of 45 years and best friend, Bill; daughter-in-law Robin (Jason); stepson Adam (Julie); grandchildren Eric, Mackenzie, Katie, Ally, and Jared; sister Sue; brother Steve (Sheila); sister-in-law Bev; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald Sr. and Shirley Urbach; her brother, Donald Jr.; and her stepson, Eric W. Kuhl.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on October 25, 2026, at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5701 Center Street, Omaha, Nebraska 68106.
