Lawrence “Larry” Carl Haffke, of Omaha, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on February 9, 1949, to Carl and Florence (Eliassen) Haffke, Larry lived a life defined by hard work, independence, curiosity, and adventure. He was preceded in death by his parents and his late wife, Jolene.
Larry grew up in Omaha and graduated from North High School in 1967. Following graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army, completing a tour in South Korea during the Vietnam War era.
After his military service, Larry built a successful masonry business through determination and grit. Never one to shy away from a new challenge, he later pursued a variety of ventures throughout his life, including logging in Montana, operating small eateries, and even panning for gold. Larry approached life with a pioneering spirit and a willingness to explore wherever opportunity and curiosity led him.
Larry was happiest outdoors and enjoyed a wide range of hobbies and passions. He loved Subaru vehicles, airboats, gardening, tinkering with batteries and electronics, and exploring solar power systems. He enjoyed watching YouTube tutorials and was always learning something new or working on a project. Larry’s hands were rarely still, and his mind was always active with ideas.
He is survived by his sons, Michael “Mike” Haffke, Thomas “Tom” Haffke, and Aaron Haffke; and by his grandson, Harrison, whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his brother, Edward “Ed” Haffke, and Ed’s wife, Deanne, along with their children, Julee Niemants, Joe Haffke, and Ben Haffke. Larry is further survived by his first wife, Mary Patton, and his second wife, Kari Tanner. In his later years, Larry was deeply grateful for the loving care and support of his sister-in-law, Patty Magni, whose kindness and devotion meant so much to both Larry and his family.
Larry will be remembered for his hardworking nature, adventurous soul, sharp mind, and the many talents he shared with others. He lived life on his own terms, always building, fixing, learning, and creating. Above all, he will be remembered as a man of resilience, determination, and heart who left a lasting impression on those who knew and loved him.
