Leroy Martin Smolik was born November 11, 1935 in Valley County, Nebraska near the town of Comstock. He passed away peacefully August 31, 2023 in Omaha, Nebraska. His parents were Frank Smolik and Anna Fajmon. He attended country school District 29 for three years. In the spring of 1944, the family relocated to a farm north of Burwell. He graduated in 1953 from Burwell High School. He worked on farms and ranches for a few years. He then entered military service in September of 1958 and was honorably discharged in September of 1960.
After that he lived in Lincoln, Auburn, Omaha and Ralston. He worked in industrial plants. Also during the tax season, Leroy worked for H and R Block preparing income tax returns. He married Constance Avery on October 13, 1984. They were later divorced, and there were no children of this marriage.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Elden and Robert; sister, Wilma Johnstone; brother-in-law, William Johnstone; sister-in-law, Yvette Smolik. He is survived by a sister, Delores (Jerome) Kuta of Grand Island; step-daughter, Mary Resetter of Fayetteville, NC; four step-grandchildren; 17 nephews and nieces; and special friends, William and Tiffany Bates.
A Visitation will be held Friday, September 8, 2023 from 12:00-1:00 pm with a Funeral Service at 1:00 pm and Interment to follow. All services will be at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 5701 Center St., Omaha, NE 68106.
