Lila Fouser of Omaha, NE died suddenly and unexpectedly in the company of friends on April 4, 2019. She lived a full life, devoted to her family, friends, and church. She was born in Chicago, IL on November 14, 1931 to Ernest and Effie Jagar. Her father moved the family to Omaha during the Great Depression, and Lila attended Washington Elementary and Central High Schools. Lila also attended a year at University of Omaha before getting married.
Lila met the love of her life, Lloyd, in high school through Masonic activities. They married in 1952 and raised two daughters in the same house in which Lila was raised. Lila was always busy with volunteerism, including school PTA and church choir. Lila also loved handiwork. She was an accomplished seamstress and sewed custom dresses and draperies for many Omaha clients. She could knit anything, from Scandinavian ski sweaters to tiny suits with mohair collars for her daughters’ Barbie dolls. She baked as many as a hundred dozen Christmas cookies annually to share with friends and family. When her daughters were teens, Lila started work at Clarkson Hospital, where she worked as a discharge cashier for nearly two decades. Her steadfast support and presence helped encourage her two daughters to pursue educational opportunities and higher learning.
Lila is survived by her daughter Laurie Fouser, MD and son-in-law Stephen Dager, MD of Seattle, WA, son-in-law Dale Cumming, PhD and grandsons Ethan and Jeremy Cumming of Acton, MA, brother John Jagar of Carthage, MO, niece Vicky Wiedel and her husband Sean of Chicago, IL, and nephew Eric Jagar, MD and his wife Jennifer of Bayreuth, Germany. She is predeceased by her parents and husband. On January 8, 2019, Lila’s youngest daughter, Lynette Fouser, PhD preceded her in death.
Visitation will be at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home on April 15th from 6-8 pm. Lila’s funeral service will be at Bethel Lutheran Church, 45th&Poppleton, at 10:30 am on April 16th. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to Bethel Lutheran Church.
