teenager and has called it home ever since. He joined the United States Army in 1955, where he served
almost six years as an Engineer Mechanic while serving a partial term in Verdun, France. He married his
wife Shirley, of 44 years, in 1972. Melvin raised eight children, seven of whom he happily adopted or
took in as stepchildren. He is survived by his children – Jeremy, Jennifer, Shaundra, Autumn, Dillen, Nina,
Linda, and George; His grandchildren – Paul, Bridget, Brenda, Summer, Sierra, Markus, and Nova; His
siblings, who affectionately refer to him as Tiny – Harold, Jim, Linda, and Tim. Melvin spent most of his
professional career with the United States Postal Service, where he retired. During that time, he held
multiple positions including Safety Supervisor and Operations Manager. Melvin spent the beginning of
his retirement golfing with family-friends and loved ones. Since high school, Melvin enjoyed watching
weekly football games with his beloved friend Lynn Agee and that tradition lived on for over 60 years.
His favorite teams were the Green Bay Packers and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Melvin lived a long life
full of love and happiness and will be dearly missed.
