Michael was born March 13th, 1958 in Omaha to Dorothy and Alden (Al) Lincoln. He was the third of what would become eight children. Growing up in a predominantly Catholic neighborhood there were plenty of friends around to join him in his adventures.
Michael was interested at an early age in all things mechanical and especially had a penchant for motorcycles. He bought his first Honda 70 at 14 years of age and it escalated from there with ever faster and bigger bikes. This is when his nickname Spike kicked in. Drag racing was another hobby. He loved the explosive power and speed of the drag strip.
He graduated from Omaha South High School in ‘76 and soon departed on his next adventure at the invitation of his older brother Mark. Spike loaded up in Mark’s old Mercury station wagon and moved to Santa Clara, CA, where Mark was attending college. Spike found himself, a wide eyed midwestern kid in the late 70’s culture of California. He got a job working at the Atari plant making video game consoles and learned how to support himself. Spike did a lot of growing up and learning from Mark and his merry band of college friends. They went on many adventures and had many new experiences. Spike often related memories of one of his favorite trips to Yosemite National Park. He was awed by the soaring landscapes, the likes of which he had not seen in Nebraska. It made such a deep impression on him that he later took his family on a trip there to show them the natural wonders that captured his heart.
In 1979 Spike returned to Omaha and got a job working at Sherwin Williams Automotive Finishes. During this time he met a young lady, Gloria Lovette, while riding motorcycles, whom he later married. He later went to work for Rusty Rushton in the auto body industry, absorbing knowledge along the way. In the 90’s he landed at D&R Auto Body & Paint where he excelled in sales and helped grow their walk-in business. He was even able to find a niche with the farm equipment restoration crowd and helped many enthusiasts restore their old tractors back to former glory.
Spike is survived by his son Austin (Hannah Ward) and his daughter Emmy (Devon Combs). He has three grandchildren Hendrix (Austin & Hannah) and Kyree and Amari (Emmy & Devon) He is proceeded in death by his wife Gloria (2008).
Spike was a simple man who loved his country, and had the utmost respect for those who served her. He had many friends from all walks of life. Everyone who knew him had a “Spike story” and many got nicknames from him that stick to this day.
Spike may not have had the formal education of college, but he had a wealth of knowledge acquired through years of working and a lifetime of experience. He may not have been financially wealthy but he was rich in friendships and memories. He will be missed. Gone too soon…..NEVER FORGOTTEN!!
