Mildred Jean Rotschafer (Millie) began her earthly journey on December 16, 1923. Millie was born and raised on a farm outside Hickman, Nebraska, where she learned hospitality and home economics. She first spied Wayne from behind her mother’s skirt when their mothers would exchange farm produce.
Millie and Wayne dated in high school and married on Christmas Day, 1942 when Wayne was going off to serve in WWII. Soon after, they were blessed with their son, Harold, and spent nearly all their years in Nebraska. Millie was always keeping her family close and entertaining whenever possible. Sixteen years after Harold, they were surprised and blessed with their other son, Randy.
In retirement, Millie and Wayne spent their time camping, serving at Westminster Church, and gathering with family. They enjoyed 76 years of marriage, spending Wayne’s final 55 years in the house in Millard, often eating meals with friends and neighbors.
As a kid, Millie loved singing in choirs. Later, she enjoyed painting landscapes, refinishing furniture, garage sales, and cooking whenever possible. After Wayne’s passing, Millie lived three years in the house in Millard before moving to assisted living for her final six months. There she found new friends and instructed the staff on the finer points of cleaning and cooking and in other ways they could improve their hospitality!
Millie missed Wayne in her final years. She was ready to see him again and be with her Lord in Heaven. Through cooking and hospitality, Millie always demonstrated caring for others first, knowing that everything else would work out. We now rejoice knowing that she can now serve and entertain for eternity.
