

Mildred Laura Grant-Rucker was born on March 17, 1925, and transitioned on August 18, 2024, at age 99 after a long illness in Omaha, NE. where she resided until her passing. She was the 2nd child of William Duncan and Frances (Estes) Duncan. She was born in St. Joseph, MO; relocated to Omaha, NE along with her sister Willa and her parents. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Edward W. Grant (1959), second husband Johnny Rucker, (1985) daughter Suelyn Stewart, and sister and only sibling Willa Edson. After the passing of her first husband, Edward William Grant who was called home at age 40, Mildred, at age 34 was tasked with raising and attending to her six children ranging from ages one month to 19 years. She continued to pour into her children how important it was to have and keep faith in God. She was the strength and catalyst for moving us all toward our walk with the Lord. During her work history, she held positions at the Bomber Plant during World War II, the Pentzien family of Omaha, NE, and teacher assistant in Minneapolis, MN. Mildred was a faithful member of Victory Church, Omaha, NE, Pastored by Joe Laughlin. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports and family get togethers. Mildred leaves five senior children: son Edward W. Grant, II (Vickie) daughters Yvonda Ware, Phyllis Barring-Glass, Edwyna Choice (Jack), and Lisa Grant. Eighteen grandchildren: Regina Perkins, Damon Perkins, Troy Barring, Rejene Clariette, Stacey Shabazz Roberto Barring, Tonya Strickland, Veronica Carter, Laryssa Donald, Thomas L. Smith II, Edward Grant III, Delvon Grant, Talisha Wheeler, James Anderson, Antonio Toombs, Vincent Grant, Lamont Grant, Cedrick Nelson. Fifty great grandchildren; forty-one great-great grandchildren; two great-great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, August 23, 2024, 4-8 pm at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5701 Center St., Omaha, NE 68106. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 11 am at Victory Church, 6330 N. 56th St., Omaha, NE 68104, with Interment to follow at Westlawn-Hillcrest Memorial Park.
