Nancy Jane St. Clair

Nancy grew up in Massachusetts, and even as a young girl showed a spirit of independence. As a kindergartener in Boston, she would take off on her own each morning, stopping for donuts and coffee on her way to school. That same sense of adventure carried her forward: at 21 years old, she left home and followed her beloved husband, "Sandy," to Nebraska. It was in Lincoln, while Sandy studied, that Nancy first became a Cornhusker, a loyalty that would stay with her for the rest of her life, through decades of wins, losses, and everything in between.

Nancy had a gift for making a home wherever she lived and made more than one corner of Nebraska home over the years. Her creativity found many outlets through the years, but her handmade ceramics and crochet were the signature pieces most remember her by. A lifelong habit of making beautiful things with her hands was something she carried into every stage of her life.

When Sandy died, young Nancy was left to raise her family alone. She met that challenge the way she met everything: by learning, and by leaning on the friendships and community around her. She learned to drive, something she had never needed growing up in Boston, and built a trade of her own, keeping a shop at home so she could always be there for her children. Later in life, she went back to school to learn computers for her job in North Platte, proving once again that she was never too old to learn something new. She also gave thousands of hours of her time volunteering in North Platte, a quiet act of service that spanned years.

In time, Nancy married again, to John St. Clair, adding yet another chapter to a life built on resilience and reinvention.

Above all, Nancy's greatest joys were her family and friendships: watching her children and grandchildren grow, celebrating their milestones, and staying close to the people she loved.

Nancy is survived by her son, Scott Sander (Brenda and Benson Craig), and her daughter, Carol (Bob) Dishman; five grandchildren, Megan (Alejo) Benedetti, Daniel (Halle) Sander, Mindy (Riley) Ross, Molly Dishman, and Sarah (Matt) Bashus; and twelve great-grandchildren, Indigo, Amelia, Reagan, Ryder, Rachel, Roby, Reyna, Lillian, Emilia, Adaline, Mackenzie, and Paisley.

Visitation will be held at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5701 Center St, Omaha, Nebraska 68106, on July 22, 2026, at 11:00 am.
