Paul David Aden was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on September 13, 1941, to parents Grace Margaret and Albert Aden. Dave grew up in South Omaha, where he attended South Lincoln Elementary School and Omaha South High School, graduating in 1959. He went on to attend Omaha University (UNO) on a baseball scholarship. Dave was awarded the NAIA Freshman Pitcher of the Year in 1960 and honorable mention national NAIA All-Tournament in 1960 and 1961 with a pitching record of 15-4. He received a free-agent contract from the New York Yankees in 1961 but did not sign with the team. Dave was inducted into the South High School Packers Hall of Fame in 2016.
Dave married the love of his life, Victory Golden, in 1961 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Omaha. The couple would have celebrated 63 years of marriage on October 21. Dave and Vickie raised five children: Tami, Suzanne, Julianne, Erik, and Kristina. They are blessed with fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He loved spending time with them and was proud of them for their many accomplishments.
Dave accepted a position with Hauff Sporting Goods in 1961 while attending college. After years of hard work, he purchased the Omaha business with his two brothers, Rick and Roger Aden. He enjoyed working with his brothers, family, and friends and took pride in the character and success of his business. In 2018, Dave officially retired from the work that he enjoyed for 57 years.
Dave loved music and was a very talented pianist. His favorite genre was “blues,” and he enjoyed playing in his spare time. Other hobbies included fishing, skiing, golfing, and watching sports. He was a devoted Husker football fan and a Cardinals baseball fan. He also found great pride in watching his grandchildren play sports of all kinds. He loved the Lord and was a long-time member of Christ Community Church.
Dave is survived by his wife, Vickie; sisters-in-law, Aggie (Mike) Jayne and Bonnie Aden; children, Tami (Tom) Bednar, Suzanne (Mike) Walton, Julie (Randy) Raether, Erik Aden and Kristi (Josh) Dowding; grandchildren, Alex (Kara Brown) Bednar, Mackenzie (Jordan) Peters, Grant Bednar, Reid (Mila) Bednar, Jordan (Sam) Godberson, Taylor (Amanda) Godberson, Nick (Jenny) Berg, Madison (Jamie McGann) Berg, Nick Raether, Angela (Jonathan) Temme, Lina Aden, Tatum Dowding, Hannah Dowding and Aden Dowding; as well as many great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
