Robert Earl Strnad

Born in Omaha, Nebraska, on August 5, 1950, Robert was the son of Frank and Helen Strnad, who preceded him in death.

Robert is survived by his devoted wife, Diane Kolund Strnad; his brothers, Alan and Virginia Strnad, Flagstaff, AZ, Gary and Patricia Strnad, Cody, WY, and sister, Linda and Denis Jensen, Redondo Beach, CA. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, dear friends, and neighbors.

Raised in Omaha’s historic Field Club neighborhood, Robert carried the values of hard work, loyalty, and community throughout his life. He graduated from South High School in 1968 and earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1984, reflecting his commitment to lifelong learning. Robert dedicated 38 years to the Omaha Public Schools Transportation Division, where he was respected for his dependability, strong work ethic, and willingness to help others. He retired in 2012.

He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, especially time outdoors. Robert loved bowling, golfing, fishing, and hunting, and finding peace in nature. An avid gardener, he took pride in his yard and flowers, and he especially enjoyed feeding and watching the neighborhood birds and squirrels.

He shared a special bond with the family’s beloved dogs, whose companionship brought him great comfort. Music was a lifelong enjoyment, particularly Jim Morrison and The Doors. He was also a devoted sports fan, faithfully following the New York Yankees, Boston Celtics and the Las Vegas Raiders through every season.

In August 2018, Robert was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Though given only a 10 percent chance of survival, he faced the illness with remarkable courage and determination. Through chemotherapy and radiation, he defied the odds and gained additional meaningful years with his loved ones. In the past year, he experienced recurring fluid around his right lung, resulting in multiple hospitalizations and complications affecting his heart and lungs. Throughout his illness, he showed extraordinary strength and resilience.

Robert will be remembered for his deep devotion to his family, and appreciation for life’s everyday blessings. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and perseverance that will live on in all who knew him.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
