Rod Whitmarsh Sr.

Born in Houston, Texas, on April 4, 1953, to the late Richard Whitmarsh Sr. and Elnora Whitmarsh, Rod earned his nickname "Hot Rod" for his love of cars and racing. It was a title he wore proudly, perfectly reflecting his lifelong passion. Rod turned that passion into a career, working for many years as a dedicated auto and body mechanic. If it had an engine or wheels, Rod could fix it, tune it, or make it faster. He was happiest with grease on his hands, the sound of a roaring engine in his ears, and friends and family gathered around the garage sharing stories. He was always ready to crack a quick joke to lighten the mood and bring a smile to everyone's face.

More than his love for the fast lane, Rod was a deeply devoted family man. He loved nothing more than sharing his favorite places with those closest to him, creating lasting memories of spending time with family at the racetrack and taking his grandkids out fishing. Some of his favorite moments were spent passing down his love for speed, teaching his family how to race and how to pull off the perfect burnout.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Debra Whitmarsh, who was the anchor of his life. His legacy lives on through his four sons and their families: Rodney Whitmarsh Jr. and his wife Laura, grandchild Kyle, and four great-grandchildren; Timothy Whitmarsh and his wife Jill, and grandchildren Shelby, Brayden, and Keagan; Micheal Whitmarsh and his wife Cara, and grandchildren Jackson and Lucy; and Jeffrey Whitmarsh and his wife Lynzei. He is also survived by his siblings: his brother Richard Whitmarsh Jr. and his wife Debra; his brother Russell Whitmarsh; and his sister Ellie Whitmarsh. He leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Rod was preceded in death by his father, Richard Whitmarsh Sr.; his mother, Elnora Whitmarsh; and his brother, Ricky Whitmarsh.

"Hot Rod" has crossed his final finish line, but his memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone who shared his love for the garage, the track, and the quiet days by the water.
