Roger McGinnis (October 12, 1938 – June 11, 2026)
Doris McGinnis (July 13, 1939 – June 7, 2026)
High School Sweethearts
Married April 27, 1958 - Forever Together
Some love stories are simply meant to be told together.
Roger and Doris McGinnis built a beautiful life centered around faith, family, friendship, and service to others. Their greatest joy was never found in possessions, but in the people they loved and the countless lives they touched along the way.
On June 7, 2026, Doris passed peacefully surrounded by the love of her family. Just four days later, on June 11, 2026, Roger joined her in Heaven. After a lifetime together, theirs was a bond that simply could not be separated.
For nearly six decades, Roger and Doris served their community through Roger's career as a State Farm insurance agent. Beginning in 1961, they built far more than an insurance business. Together, they built relationships with thousands of customers, many spanning four generations of the same families. If you knew Roger and Doris, you knew their customers often became lifelong friends.
Family was always at the center of their lives. Roger coached all four of their sons' baseball teams, while Doris was faithfully by his side keeping score, managing rosters, and making sure everything ran smoothly. Their teamwork extended onto the softball field as well, where Roger coached a girls' softball team that included Doris and their daughters-in-law, ultimately finishing as undefeated City Champions.
Their love for family extended far beyond sports.
For over 50 years, Milford Lake, Kansas, was Doris' happy place and became a treasured gathering place for family and friends. It was there that countless memories were created through boating, fishing, skiing, fish fries, campfires, storms weathered together, and some of the most beautiful sunsets imaginable.
Music was another thread woven deeply into their lives. In 1993, their son Steve founded The City Limit Band, joined by brother Keith. From the band's first public performance on Roger and Doris' 35th wedding anniversary through more than 30 years of music, they missed only two shows. Through late nights, long drives, and countless weekends, Roger and Doris were always there. To many followers of the band, they simply became known as "Mom and Dad."
That was who they were.
They welcomed everyone into their hearts, made strangers feel like family, and loved deeply and unconditionally.
Roger and Doris are survived by their four sons: Bryan, Mark (Amy), Keith, and Steve (Linda); grandchildren Ashley McGinnis (Bryan), Stephanie Schlotfeld and Shawn McGinnis (Mark), Casey McGinnis (Keith), and Nicole, Tara and Danielle McGinnis (Steve); numerous great-grandchildren; extended family; and countless friends whose lives were made better simply by knowing them.
Their legacy will live on through the stories they created, the lessons they taught, and the love they shared so freely.
They were deeply loved.
And they will be deeply missed.
Forever together.
Forever remembered.
Forever in our hearts.
