February 20, 1941 - December 17, 2023
Roger H. Kronholm, 82, of Omaha, NE, passed away on December 17, 2023.
Roger was born and raised in Omaha, NE. He graduated from Omaha Central High School and University of Omaha. While in college, Roger met Kay Krebs, the love of his life, when they were seated beside each other in Psychology 101. They married on April 5, 1963. Roger’s parents, Harvey and Dorothy Kronholm, had been deeply involved in Olive Crest United Methodist church as he grew up, so it was no surprise when Roger was called to become a Methodist minister after graduation.
Roger and Kay moved to Dayton, Ohio. Roger attended United Theological seminary while Kay taught first grade. Upon graduation from seminary, Roger returned to Nebraska to serve as the pastor at Marquette and Archer, NE. While there, Roger and Kay welcomed two daughters, Shelly and Julie. They were eventually moved to Grace United Methodist church in Omaha, where Roger served for several years.
Roger made his first career change when he became the Director of Equilibria, a methadone clinic for heroin addicts. Who could forget that phase? The curly perms, the van with the mushrooms painted on the side, the leather hat from Mexico. And don’t get me started on the mustache. On evenings or Saturdays, you may have found Roger at Jerry Hickey’s car lot, hanging out with his buddies and selling used cars on the side.
In the late eighties, Roger made another career change and began selling basement waterproofing. Roger was a natural salesman and had found his niche. He continued to work in foundation and basements through the rest of his career. He became comfortable working alongside engineers and writing bids for projects, large and small.
Roger loved to play volleyball, sand volleyball, pickleball, wallyball, and golf. He was still playing sand volleyball until he was 78 and pickleball until he was 80. He was also a huge sports fan. He loved Nebraska football, but he was arguably the biggest Nebraska volleyball fan around, with Creighton basketball a close second. Roger was also an active member of Lions Club of Omaha as well as Unity of Omaha.
He was born on February 20, 1941 to Harvey and Dorothy Kronholm. He is survived by his wife, Kay (Krebs) Kronholm, his daughters Shelly (Dean) Nosbisch and Julie (Jim) Sutfin, and his grandchildren Derek (Caroline) Nosbisch, Brady (Sarah) Sutfin, Megan Nosbisch, Tessa Sutfin, and Travis (Hannah) Nosbisch.
FUNERAL SERVICE: Friday, December 29, 2023 at 11 am, with VISITATION one hour prior, at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home. A luncheon will follow in the funeral home. Please see westlawnhillcrest.com for full obituary.
Donations in his honor may be made to Grief’s Journey or Unity of Omaha.
