Russell Albert was born in 1932 in Duluth, Minnesota to Florence and Lloyd Running. He grew up in a household with 3 brothers and 1 sister, during very challenging times for both the country and his family. As a child growing up in poverty, during the great depression, he overcame much adversity, dealing with the death of his older brother and weathering the effects of Rheumatic fever. Always a courageous, independent explorer, he experienced an adventurous upbringing, traveling the countryside by any means necessary, including boats, trains, and automobiles. Never deterred, he said he knew he could go anywhere as long as he had his thumb.
On March 7, 1952 he ventured out on his greatest adventure when he married his beloved sweetheart Jessie Mae Pellman in St Louis County Minnesota. Over the next 71 years, they journeyed down an incredible path, moving across the midwest region and eventually settling in Omaha, while raising 8 biological children, 7 adopted children and numerous foster children, most with special needs. Always showing his love in his own unique special ways, he was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
As an accomplished lifelong siding applicator, he enjoyed working outside and exemplified what it meant to be a true craftsman. His work was always in high demand and Russell was asked for by name, compiling a long waiting list for his services. He loved what he did and was a perfectionist, meticulously performing the smallest details of his work and not resting until everything was flawless.
In his free time, Russell enjoyed conversations with his family, camping in his RV, watching westerns late at night, spoiling his puppies and spending time outside. On the weekends he could usually be found, soaking up the sun while taking care of the lawn and precisely detailing his vehicles. Of all the things he loved, Russell loved his family the most. His face would light up whenever he got a visit from his children or grandchildren and you could tell that spending time together was very special for him. He had all the time in the world for you and his smile and quick wit provided for endless hours of conversations.
Russell Albert Running is survived by his wife Jessie Mae, Sons: Robert (Jeanie), Rick (Julie), Randy, Russ (Lori), Chris (Shannon), Carlos (Becky) Daughters: Debbie Peterson (Lester), Cindy Janiak (Ray) Joi Stratman (Rick), Martina Running, UnHwa L.R. Smith (Randy), 25 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Lloyd Alfred “Doogie”, his Mother Florence Isabell, his brothers Lloyd, Robert, Ronnie and Sister Barbara.
Russell’s personality, mentorship, advice and guidance will be sorely missed and he will always be in our thoughts and prayers.
“So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.” John 16:22
