Sharon K. Guthrie

Sharon K. Guthrie, age 85, of New Bern, NC, formerly of Omaha NE, passed away on June 7, 2026. She was a lifelong resident of Omaha and 32-year Mutual of Omaha employee. Sharon recently moved to New Bern to be near her children.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. Guthrie; mother, Kathryn M. Wright; father, John P. Wright; in-laws, Viola and Wayne Guthrie; and sister-in-law, Barb Parmenter.

She is survived by her children, Cynthia Grant and Michael Grant (Johanna); stepsons, Michael Guthrie (Christina) and Kevin Guthrie; grandchildren, Jerrad Thramer, Amanda Fournier (Lee), Nick Guthrie, and Adam Guthrie (Annie); and many cousins, extended family and friends.

Sharon had many hobbies to include gardening, card making, needlework and crochet. She loved sharing those talents with family and friends and many were recipients of her handmade creations. She had a deep appreciation for her Czech heritage learning to speak Czech at young age, by collecting Czech art and pottery and cooking traditional Czech meals.

She always joined in for a good conversation, a good joke, and some straightforward talk on living life. She was a prolific reader, and her love of history was something she shared often, with great knowledge and insight. Her words had weight and thoughtfulness about them, she was a true “straightshooter.” In her later years, she particularly enjoyed sharing her memories of family and friends in years gone by – they were never far from her heart.

Her love of God, country, family, and friends touched those who knew her and will miss her deeply.

Please join us in celebrating Sharon's life. MEMORIAL SERVICE: Monday, July 27, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home, with a brief COMMITTAL SERVICE to follow in Westlawn-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Refreshments and fellowship to follow.
