

Winifred Anne Shipley-Johnson “Win” “Aunt Win” “Miss Shipley” to many - Winifred Anne Johnson went to be with Jesus on Wed. Dec. 10, 2014 at her home in Risen Son Christian Village, Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was born on the family farm west of Missouri Valley, IA Aug. 22, 1921 to the late Fred and Ethel (Hamer) Shipley, family included sisters: Helen Stansberry, Missouri Valley, IA (deceased), Marjorie Snater – Santa Rosa, CA. Win attended Riverview School, Missouri Valley High School, Buena Vista University graduating after many summers of classes Summa Cum Laude and Valedictorian. Having started her teaching career in a one room school (rural Little Sioux, IA) following high school she taught for 43 years at schools including: “Hard Scratch” – Logan, IA, Riverview, and retiring after decades at Rose Hill (5th/6th grades) Omaha, NE. Many of her former students (some of which received her scholarships to further their education), pay tribute to her influence in their lives by keeping in touch. She epitomized the love of God through her dedicated life of service to Him and others. Being active at Calvary Baptist Church, Omaha, NE, Welsh Society of Nebraska, Shipley Cemetery Committee of NE, Maple Crest Retirement & Condos, and supporting Heartland Christian School, Co. Bluffs, IA and Open Door Mission, Omaha, NE. Postponing marriage til 6/21/69 to care for parents, she was also a caregiver to her husband Neil Johnson before his death 11/2003. Never having children of her own she influenced hundreds as teacher and beloved aunt to: Marge (Stansberry) Danielson (Gary) – Sarah, Maren, Laura, Katie & families. Mary Lee Stansberry (deceased), Marie (Stansberry) Turpen (Ray) – Jay, Nancy (Snater) Svendsen (Sean) – Annelisa, Tor, Karen Snater (Dorjee), Mark Snater. Also survived by cousin: Dick Bell, Omaha, NE and dear friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 with family from 6-7 at Crosby Colonial Chapel in Omaha.
Funeral Service will be Thursday at 11:00 at First Christian Church 20794 Iowa 92, Council Bluffs, IA. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha
