Bernard Jay Lull

He was born November 9, 1928 in White Sulfur Springs, NY the son of the late Jay M. and Madoline (Everett) Lull.

Bernard graduated from Laurens Central School class of 1946. He then graduated from Ithaca College with a Physical Education Degree.

On June 10, 1951, Bernard married Frances D. Stepp in Laurens. Frances predeceased him on April 22, 1986.

In 1956, Bernard and Frances moved to Troy where he taught elementary phys. Ed at Haskill Elementary and coached track at Lansingburg High School. In 1959 he moved his family to a farm in Mt. Vision and while also farming full time he began teaching Elementary Phys. Ed for the Oneonta City Schools. In his later years he taught Driver’s Education at the Oneonta High School. Bernard was also a baseball coach at the high school and also a referee for soccer and basketball. In 1983 Bernard took an early retirement to fulfill his and Flip’s dream of owning a retirement home in Florida.

He had a loved and passion for farming and teaching. He would love it when he would run into one of his old students. But one of his greatest joys was spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In 1991 he married Phyllis Baker who survives him in Florida.

Bernard is a member of the Susquehanna Board of Officials, the Laurens Presbyterian Church and the Laurens Masonic Lodge.

Bernard is survived by four children, Gail Roberts of Laurens, Denise Lull of Burlington Flats, Jan and Mark Yurechko of Zephyrhills and Scott and Deb Lull of Unity, Wisconsin; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Margueretha Lull of FL; brother-in-law, Jack Reed of West Oneonta; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, Gerald Lull; two sisters, Francelia and James F. Stepp and Lorraine Reed; and one niece, Diane Kohinke.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM with a Masonic Service being held at 8:00PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 2:00PM in the Bookhout Funeral Home with the CLP Judith Gage officiating. Burial will be held in the spring in the Elm Row Cemetery, Laurens.
