Carol Jackson Forman was born on July 21, 1942, the only child of Malcolm and Ruth (Sharpe) Jackson. They lived near Poughkeepsie and moved to the Mt. Vision area in 1949.
Carol graduated from Laurens Central School in 1960 and went to SUNY New Paltz where she graduated in 1964 with a B.S. in Art Education. After teaching for 3 years in Fort Plain she earned a Master’s Degree at SUNY New Paltz in 1968.
Carol moved to the Albany area and taught art in Bethlehem Central Middle School (south of Albany) from 1969 to 1978. Carol had met Ed Forman in June, 1968, at a dance and their common interests kept them together On November 18, 1972 they were married in Mt. Vision.
In June 1978 they bought the family homestead in Mt. Vision where Carol was raised and lived there the rest of Carol’s life. She taught in Oneonta High School, Unadilla Elementary School, and substitute taught in area schools as her time allowed. She retired from teaching in 1998.
Carol was very community oriented and loved helping people. For over 20 years she worked with a team on Friday mornings to prepare food for Saturday’s Bread. She was the secretary of the Town of Laurens Planning Board for over 25 years. She and Ed were part of the team that planned and ran the Friends of Christmas community dinners for many years.
Carol loved animals and always had a pet cat or dog from the time she was a small child to just a few years ago when her last cat died. She was an avid supporter of the area animal shelters.
Despite progressive diseases and physical ailments that kept limiting her in recent years Carol rarely complained and always pushed herself to participate in life’s events as much as possible. She often told Ed not to mourn her when she dies because she’ll be out of pain. Ed says she’s one of the strongest women he’s ever known.
Carol’s parents died 26 days apart in June, 1988. She now leaves behind her loving husband Ed after 54 years of marriage and some relatives in Tucson. Also left behind are the many friends she’s made here. Special among these are Connie Dabreau (friends since 1st grade), Sue Orchowski (the Sue mentioned above),
Loraine Tyler, Don Ehlers, Vera Sosnowski, and Karen Shafer. Funeral arrangements are with Grummons-Bookhout-Bennett Funerals and Cremations in Oneonta. Carol will be cremated and her ashes will eventually be merged with Ed’s and be interred in a permanent location in the area.
A gathering to celebrate Carol’s life will be held on Friday, October 23, from 4:00-7:30 PM at the Grummons-Bookhout-Bennett Funerals & Cremations, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, NY. Anyone who knew Carol is welcome to come and share stories with her family.
Donations in Carol’s name can be made to the Susquehanna SPCA (or any animal shelter of your choice) and Saturday’s Bread. Rest in Peace Carol. You have done good works and earned it.
