(July 7, 1939 – October 9, 2025)
It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Caroline Bettencourt Guenther, who left this world peacefully on October 9th, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late Benson P. Guenther, who passed away in 2008. They shared a lifelong love and devotion that inspired everyone who knew them.
Caroline grew up on a farm in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, where her love of nature and animals first began. That love continued throughout her life and became something she joyfully shared with her family. She delighted in teaching her grandchildren about the world around them. The names of trees, the names of clouds, and the wonders of the woods. At her cozy cabin in the forest, where
she lived with her husband. She created nature paths and peaceful spaces that reflected her gentle spirit. Together, she and Benson cared for countless animals that they had rehabilitated over the years, giving each creature a chance at a better life.
Caroline was known for her beautiful singing voice, which could fill a room with warmth and joy. And she loved dancing, always dancing in the living room or kitchen with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She loved cooking, crafting, or simply spending time with family — her songs and joyful steps became part of the soundtrack of her loved ones’ childhoods and memories.
She was a devoted mother to Ben (Sandy) Guenther, Wendy Guenther, and Christina (John) Tavanian, and a proud grandmother to Jessica Guenther, Aisha Guenther, Quentin Guenther and her great-granddaughter Hailey. Caroline was more than a grandmother — she was a second mother, a teacher, and a source of endless love, comfort, and laughter.
Caroline filled her home with warmth, kindness, and the delicious smells of her cooking. Her famous angel pie was a family favorite, and we like to imagine she’s now baking them in heaven, surrounded by real angels. She loved crafting, painting, knitting, and crocheting, and she shared her creativity generously with
those around her. Her home was a haven of joy, where holidays were magical and even ordinary days were made special.
She was predeceased by her loving parents, Antone and Helen Bettencourt, her husband, Benson P. Guenther, and her brother Tony Bettencourt. She is survived by her sisters Bella, Grace, and Penny, who carry forward her love of family and life.
Caroline dedicated many years of her life to caring for others through her work with the elderly, showing the same compassion and dedication that she gave her own family. She lived her life with grace, generosity, and unwavering love.
She will be missed deeply by all who knew her, but her love and spirit will continue to live on in her family and friends in the memories she made, the lessons she taught, the love she shared, the songs she sang, and the dances she led.
