
Charles was born on March 22, 1925 in New Lisbon, New York, the son of Scott and Frances (Bice) Colburn. In May of 1950, he was united in marriage to Frances Beers.
A decorated veteran of the United States Marine Corp. and the U.S. Army, Charles was very proud of his service to his country who served during World War II in his first tour of duty. Following his honorable discharge from the military, Charles worked at Bendix in Sidney for over 30 years.
He loved the outdoors, anything to do with an engine, and tinkering to make things better than they were. He also loved his schnauzer, George Jr. He was always curious, learning and sharing what he knew with others.
Charles is survived by his wife of 60 years, Frances (Beers) Colburn; his daughter, Patti Timoney, and her husband Hugh; his grand daughter, Tobi Monroe, and her husband Anthony; his grandsons, Ryan Colburn and Michael Angelotti; his great grandchildren, Gavin, Lauren and Logan Monroe, and his daughter-in-law, Christine (Angelotti) Colburn.
He is also survived by his brothers; Carl Colburn and Richard Gorton, and his wife Marie and their families; his brothers-in-law, Leonard and Eleanor Beers and their families, and Ronald and Dorothy Beers and their families, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Michael Charles Colburn; his parents; his step father, Lloyd Gorton; his sisters, Catherine, Eva, Marion and Tiny; and his brother, Lee Colburn.
A private family viewing was held at the Bookhout Funeral Home. In keeping with Charles’ wishes, there will be no public calling hours or funeral service.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Catskill Area Hospice, A.O. Fox and Bassett Hospitals, and the Bookhout Funeral Home, and extend great appreciation to Charles and Frances’ neighbors on Pony Farm Road, Mike Burger and Brian Utter and their families for their assistance and companionship.
