

He was born February 20, 1933 to Stiles and Verna (Davis) Fairchild in Downsville, NY.
Charles joined the National Guard in 1949 and continued to serve in the Army until 1973. He spent the last 2 years at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY. He was filling the position of Sergeant Major at the time of his retirement. He retired May 31, 1973. His career took him to 13 foreign countries including Germany, Japan, Korea and Vietnam twice. After retiring he went on to teach JROTC at the Bradford County High School in Stark, FL. After his military career he held logistics management positions with numerous companies (Strick Corp., Saxton Products, Empire State Chair and Uneeda Enterprises).
He married Alice Rasmussen on June 14, 1986 at her home in Congers, NY.
He loved hunting, fishing and golf. He was extremely proud of achieving a hole-in-one (twice) at Colonial Ridge Golf Course.
In later years he enjoyed breakfast at Denny’s and being home with his pets, Prince, Oscar and Angel. He was a friend to many, always willing to lend a hand.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Alice; his children, Lisa Linton and Jodi (Bill) Wagner; his step children, Kristiana Henion and Michael Foley; numerous grandchildren, dearly loved by Kevin (Katherine) Darrin and Crystal Rodriguez; numerous great grandchildren, special joys were Jayden, Gabriela, Ava and Jaxson. He will be remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Jack (Shannon) Fairchild; and great niece, Shanette (Bill) Triolo. Also surviving sons-in-law, James Darrin (special daughter-in-law, Melissa) and Edward Henion; sisters-in-law, June Fairchild and Margaret Rasmussen; and brother-in-law, Paul Rasmussen. He was predeceased by his parents, Stiles and Verna; brothers, Jack, Douglas, Stanley (Doris) and Robert; sisters, Charlotte, Jean (Richard Seaman) and Ellen (Don Wood); brothers-in-law, Peter Rasmussen and Jeff Kolka; and daughter-in-law, Pat Foley.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta. A memorial service will immediately follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. James Crouthamel officiating. Burial will be at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery on Friday, October 10, 2025 at 1:00 PM.
