
Charles was born on March 23, 1928 in Syracuse the son of the late Charles F. and Anna (Clifton) Foell. He married Dorothy VanDyke on April 30, 1949 in Rochester.
Charlie graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He worked for Ancillary Services at SUNY - Oneonta. Prior to that, he worked in advertising with the Daily Star and Reuben-Donnelly. He served his country in the Army Air Corp.
He was a member of the Oneonta American Legion #259 and a former member of the BPOE #1312, the Oneonta Eagles and the Knights of Columbus.
Charlie and Dorothy were supporters of the arts including the Catskill Symphony and the Catskill Wind Ensemble. They also supported and hosted many students from the SUNY Oneonta International Club.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Foell of Oneonta; his children and their spouses, Kristin (John) Earl, Amelia Stern, Samuel (Hatice) Foell, Frederick (Katia) Foell, John (Jane) Foell, Julia Rudloff (Joe Paliotta), Suzanne (Daniel) Lentz, and David (Sue) Foell; his 17 grandchildren and their children; and his sister, Ann Foell.
Charlie was predeceased by his parents; his brother, John Foell and his son-in-law, Kenneth Stern.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta, with Sandy Denicore, officiating. There will be no calling hours.
