David G. Ashe

David G. Ashe, 79, of Oneonta, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the M.I. Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

Dave was born on November 9, 1932 in Unadilla, the son of the late Everett and Anne (Fuller) Ashe. He married Patricia Molloy on August 15, 1959 in Seaford, NY.

Dave served his country as a sergeant in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He owned and operated The Pine Shop in Oneonta for 40 years with his wife, Pat and his sons. Prior to that he was owner and operator of Ashe Homes in Oneonta, and at one time, owned and operated The Pink Pig on Main Street in Oneonta.

He was involved in scouting, and was Cub Master for Valleyview Pack 27 as well as Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 27. He was active in city government, serving one term as an Alderman for the First Ward, as well as being a member of the Public Service Board and the Library Board. He was a long time member of the Oneonta Lions Club.

Dave is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia Ashe of Oneonta; his children, Harold Ashe and his wife, Becky of Maryland, NY, Margaret Wikoff of Oneonta and Timothy Ashe and his wife Kathy of Maryland, NY.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Stephanie, Johnathan and Danielle Ashe, Joshua and Ashely Wikoff and Hannah and Noah Ashe; his sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Ashe of Davenport and Joan (David) Sharp of Massapequa, Long Island; nephew, Charlie (Patty) Ashe and niece, Elizabeth (Jon) Anderson.

Dave was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, James, Phillip and Eugene Ashe and a son-in-law, John Stankiewicz.

Funeral services will be held at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta with Rev. David Rockwell, officiating. Interment will be in the spring at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home at which time the family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Kidney Foundation.

Arrangements under the direction of Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta, NY.

So sorry to hear about Daves' passing. Having known him for years as a Boy Scout. And as knowing Patrica,Tim and Harold for as long. He was a great man.
I do remember the Pink Pig. And then it becoming The Pine Shop.
The whole family we know as friends and "neighbors".

So sorry for your loss. I knew Dave from working with him in the Clerk's Office when he was a Council Member and then while he was on the Board of Public Service...he was always a pleasure. He will be missed.

The Ashe family has been my friends for MANY years. Worked at Pink Pig, with Dave in Scouting, Harold & Tim in Scouting, Margaret at "bid & buy", Harold & Becky at the Telethon, etc.. Dave was always involved & WE will ALL miss him! Sorry that I can not attend the funeral, but will be thinking about all of you!
