

She was born September 7, 1958 in Oneonta the daughter of the late Orris and Ethel (Whiting) Root.
Debbie has worked in the maintenance department at SUNY Oneonta for the last several years. She also enjoyed her time on the farm feeding calves.
She was a hard worker and was very selfless. She would help anyone that needed it and give them the shirt off her back if they needed it more than she did. Always the social butterfly and in her younger years she loved to dance. But what Debbie loved most was her family. She treasured the time spent with her husband, children, siblings and especially her grandchildren.
Debbie is survived by her husband, Terry Lum; two daughters, Amber and Matthew Lum and Brianne Hunsucker and Anthony Stevens; four step children, Amanda Lum Cotten, Melissa Lum Hale, Cameron Lum and Nicole Lum Stagaman; two sisters, Diane Hasenkamp and Darlene Kessler; as well as numerous grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two nieces and one great niece. She was predeceased by her son, Jesse Donlin and brother, Donald Carr.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 07, 2026 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta. A funeral service will immediately follow at 4:00 PM with Rev. Stephen D. Fournier officiating.
