Deborah Whitehead, 68, of Oneonta, New York, was born on March 19, 1958, and passed away on March 23, 2026, at home surrounded by her loving family. Debbie was pre-deceased by her parents Jerry and Betty Monser; Sisters Ann Eckler and Peggy Monser.
For many years, Debbie worked in the Culinary Department at Hartwick College and at the Otsego County Jail, roles she carried out with diligence and pride. Whether at work or in her daily life, she was known for showing up, lending a hand, and making sure others were cared for—often before thinking of herself.
Debbie had a deep love for all animals, both wild and tame, and her compassion extended naturally to everyone around her. She enjoyed playing cards, especially pitch, and found great joy in cooking—not just as a skill, but as a way to bring comfort and happiness to others. She loved to have fun and cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-granddaughter, who brought her immense happiness and purpose.
She will be remembered as a kind-hearted, compassionate, generous, hardworking, and selfless woman whose life was defined by her steady care for others and sincere devotion to the people and animals she loved.
Debbie is survived by her children, Stacy and Wendell Long; Jeremy and Brandy Enck; and Joshua and Kristen Whitehead; her grandchildren, Britany, Christopher, Chase, Colton, Jaxon, Sawyer, and Lincoln; her great-granddaughter, Fionna; her aunt, Sue Monser; two nieces Casey and Carey Eckler; her best friend, Sue Klienschmidt; and her caregiver and dear friend, Brenda Long. She leaves behind her cherished little dog "Louie".
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Brenda, Stacy, and Britany for the loving care that allowed Debbie to remain at home, as well as to the nurses at Helios Care.
A celebration of Debbie’s life will be held at a later date.
