

Born in Delhi on June 23, 1927, she was one of seven children born to William J. and Ida Z. (Mattice) O’Dell. She grew up mostly in Delhi and Andes and graduated from Delaware Academy in 1945.
Dorothy was recruited at age 16 to work at the 4-H office in Delhi where she was employed for many years. She would later become a 4-H Leader in Davenport Center.
She Married Walter M. Schulz on July 4, 1952 and they built their home in Davenport Center where they raised their four children, Walter Eric (Rick), Philip Wayne (Pete), Barbara Ann and David James. They lost son Pete in 2003 and husband Walter passed away in 2007.
Dorothy enjoyed music, gardening, sewing and baking and though primarily a homemaker, she worked for several years in the bake shop at the Feather & Screen in Davenport Center. She had a soft spot for animals and gave devotedly to the Humane Society and the ASPCA. She was also a regular contributor to the Veterans Administration and numerous public service organizations and medical research teams.
Dorothy is survived by son Walter (Rick) of Davenport Center, Daughter Barbara (William) Romero of Medford, NY and David of Munford, TN. She is also survived by brother Leroy O’Dell of the NYS Veterans Home, in Oxford, NY; her sister Elizabeth Hall of Meridale, NY and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at 12 pm in the Bookhout Funeral Home 357 Main Street, Oneonta, with Rev. James Crouthamel, officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.
Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home Wednesday from 11 am until the time of the service, at which time the family will be in attendance.
