
She was born July 11, 1935 in Oneonta the daughter of the late Claude and Helen (DeLong) Safford.
Dorothy married Frederick Wilber on December 24, 1952 in Oneonta. Fred predeceased her on December 2, 1987.
Dorothy was an avid reader and passed along the love of reading to her family. For several years she was the Librarian at the Harris Memorial Library, Otego. She was also a member of the Wells Bridge Fire Auxiliary.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Debra Gross, Gilbertsville; daughter-in-law, Sue Wilber, Franklin; grandchildren, Jeanie (Eric) Kuehner, Amsterdam, Kenneth (Amanda) Wilber, Franklin, Amanda Wilber and fiancé, Matt Harper, Sidney Center, Leigh Ann Gross and fiancé, Phil Gilbert, Unadilla, Sue Ellen Gross, Gilbertsville, Dustin Gross, Norwich, Hannah Gross, Katie Gross, Courtney Gross, Emily Gross, Mya Gross, Natalie Gross all of Gilbertsville, Deandre Gross, Schenectady, Connor Gross, Luke Gross and Jordan Gross all of Gilbertsville; her precious dog, “Princess”; a close family friend, Dulce Jester; as well as several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Douglas and James Wilber; two grandchildren, Rebecca “Becky” Gross and Christopher Gross; two sisters, Joan Safford and Barbara Brown; one brother, Robert Safford.
A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 11:00 am at the home of her daughter, Debra Gross, 32 Maple Street, Gilbertsville. Memorial donations may be made to either the Gilbertsville Emergency Squad or to the Wells Bridge Fire Auxiliary in loving memory of Dorothy J. Wilber.
