Douglas L. Bennett, 70, of Milford, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2018, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 22, 1948, in Oneonta, the son of the late Alfred and Evelyn (Nichols) Bennett. Doug was a life-long area resident. Doug proudly served his country with the United States Army, serving in Vietnam. On June 6, 1998, Doug married Shirley Knapp in Milford. Together they shared 20 years of marriage. Doug worked as an automotive technician at local car dealerships. He then worked at Amphenol as a Machinist in Sidney for many years until his retirement. Doug and Shirley traveled extensively around the country visiting many of the 50 states including Alaska, Hawaii, and California. Doug enjoyed motorcycles as he and Shirley always tried to include a motorcycle ride while in other states. He was also an avid collector which he enjoyed very much. Doug was a member of the Oneonta VFW as well as the Laurens Masonic Lodge #548. Doug is survived by his wife Shirley Bennett of Milford; Step children JoDee (Peter) Daum, Oneonta, Christel Hires of Lexington, SC and Donald Licari,Oneonta; his brothers Kenneth (Shelly) Fredenburg of Saxonburg, PA, Donald Fredenburg of Oneonta, Robert (Sandra) Bennett of Otego, and C. David (JoAnn) Bennett of Milford; his sisters Patrice (Leon) Palmer of Newark Valley, NY, Janice (Michael) Lottermann of Bay Minette, AL, and Candace (Timothy) Eichhorn, of Clayville, NY; 3 grandchildren Kaitlyn, Cassandra, and William; as well as many nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by a brother, Leslie Fredenburg and his sister- in- law Sally Fredenburg. A Celebration of Life for Douglas L. Bennett will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2018, from 4 – 8 PM at the Milford American Legion Post 1566, 86 West Main Street, Milford at which time the family will be in attendance.
