

He was born February 17, 1941 in Oneonta the son of the late Harold Frank and Uva (Orpha) Uhlig.
A lifelong area resident, Ed graduated from Oneonta High School the class of 1958. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He was honorably discharged.
On October 15, 1961, Ed married Carol Hardwick in Oneonta. Carol predeceased him on November 18, 2019.
For many years, Ed repaired motors and first worked for Rodney Clarkson at Clarkson’s Motor Repair and then for Therring’s until his retirement.
Ed was a 50 plus year member of the Boy Scouts of America. He also was inducted into the Horseshoe Hall of Fame by the South New Berlin Horseshoe Club in 2008. He pitched horseshoes for 20 years and loved the game. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, camping, fishing, visiting the Carolina’s and playing with his grand/great grandchildren. One of his greatest things he enjoyed was building stuff out of wood and restoring antique cars, one of which was a ’50 Plymouth. He and his wife, Carol and their children went to car shows and were also members of local car clubs. His woodworking talent lead to building jewelry boxes, picnic tables, cabinets porches, decks and more.
Ed is survived by his three children, Michael Uhlig (Janice Coombs), Laurens, Kathleen Doss, Erwin, NC and Dianne (John) Rock, Oneonta; five grandchildren, Cherilyn (Michael) Byrd, NC, Bradley (Heather) Hosier, NC, Sierra Hanford and Justin Episale, Endwell, NY, Russell “Rusty” (Kristian) Rock, Plainville and Jeanette (Troy) Rock, Binghamton; five great grandchildren, Mikalyn Byrd, Cailey Byrd, Zoe Hosier, Reece Rock, Ashlynn Lewis and Wyatt Rock.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023 in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta from 11:00am - 12:00pm. A celebration of life service will immediately follow at 12:00 PM with the Rev. Stephen D. Fournier officiating. Burial will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta. There will be a reception to follow at Pizzaland, 24 Oneida Street at 2PM. All are welcome.
