He was born on March 13, 1937 in Jefferson, the son of William and Ruth (Ruland) Whispell.
Edward is survived by his wife, Virginia (Ginny) L. Whispell of Laurens; a brother, Gene Fairburn (Patty) of Florida; his children, Catherine Spoor of Laurens, NY, Teresa Bell-Rose (Lysle) of Laurens, NY, Deborah Glidden (Vern) of Oneonta, NY, Edward Whispell, Jr. (Vivian) of Richmondville, NY, and Christine Whispell (Matt) of Pittsburgh, PA.; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Ed and Ginny were happily married for 44 years. The family established Lost-Bell Goat Ranch homestead farm in 1980. They had a menagerie of animals ranging from exotic, domestic, rescue and farm. Loved by many, Ed was known to be loving, humorous, hardworking, and kind.
He retired from Amphenol in Sidney after 25 years of employment there.
In his free time, Ed was an avid wood worker.
He was predeceased by his mother and father, Ruth and William Whispell; a sister, Joan Page; and a brother, Harry Whispell.
A graveside committal service will take place on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 11 am in Mt. Vision Cemetery, Mt. Vision, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Helios Care (formerly Catskill Area Hospice) or Susquehanna SPCA in Cooperstown in Ed Whispell’s name.
