Eloise Simonds

She was born July 21, 1923 in Oneonta the daughter of David T. and Estella (Young) Evans.

Eloise’s life focus was on her family and would do anything to support them. She wanted to be home to raise her children so she didn’t work until they were older doing food prep at Oneonta State College. She enjoyed cross-stitch, working on jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles and love to read.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert H. Simonds, Jr. of 69 years. They were married in Arkansas on April 4, 1943. Also predeceased by four brothers, Stewart, Clarence, Arthur and Glenn Evans and three sisters, Margaret Taylor, Frances Finney and Lena Stark.

She is survived by her five children, Barbara (Mike) Poulter of Elizabeth City, of North Carolina, Richard (Marty) Simonds of Linden, Texas, Cheryl James of Jacksonville, Florida, Doug (Marlys) Simonds of Delhi and Robert (Sandy) Simonds III of Palmetto, Florida; 14 grandchildren, Belinda, Darlene, Stacy, Chad, Brock, John, Jill, Lisa, Michael, Michele, Mark, Michael, Jason and Robert; as well as 26 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Eloise’s family would like to give a special thanks to her caregivers, Kathy, Janet, Bev and Melania.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025 in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta from 12:00 to 1:00 PM. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1:00 PM. Burial will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
