Eric John Schwed

He was born on July 19, 1968, in Oneonta the son of Karl R., Sr. and Emma (McLeod) Schwed.

Eric was known for his heart of gold and his willingness to help anyone in need. He took great care of his mother and was a dedicated neighbor to Doris, helping take care of her lawn in the summer and shoveling her driveway in the winter.

Eric loved being outside, whether doing yard work or working in his garden, where he grew the best vegetables. He was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed cooking, earning the title of "grill master" among his family and friends. His witty sense of humor brought joy to those around him, and he cherished the time spent with his beloved nieces and nephews. Eric was a Buffalo Bills fan through and through.

Eric is survived by his mother, Emma Schwed; siblings, Karl R. Schwed, Jr., Fred (Kim) Schwed and Emma (Fred) Siems; nieces and nephews, Olivia and Nathaniel Schwed and Rebecca-Lyn (Sebastian) Verret and Zachary Siems; special friend and neighbor, Doris Holcolmb. He was predeceased by his father, Karl R. Schwed, Sr.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street from 4:00 to 5:00 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow at 5:00 PM with Pastor Mitchell Spring of Spirit and Truth Church officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
