Estelle Julia Boekell Price

Estelle Boekell Price, a beloved long-time resident of Otego, NY, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2026, at the age of 90. She departed this world with the same clarity of thought and unwavering purpose that guided her remarkable and fulfilling life. Born and raised in Dumont, NJ, Estelle grew up in a time when the potential and contributions of women were often overlooked. Supported by her loving parents, Julius and Estelle Boekell, she blossomed into the strong, compassionate woman cherished by all who knew her.

A graduate of Holy Name Hospital as a registered nurse in 1957, Estelle's adventurous spirit was evident early on—her first car was a sporty MGA, which she reluctantly gave up after the birth of her second son. As a devoted and loving wife and mother, she raised three successful sons, instilling in them the values of integrity, dedication, self-reliance and kindness.

Estelle's lifelong passion for horses began in her teenage years. She was an accomplished rider, teacher, and trainer, specializing in dressage and combined training. She was a club leader for two US Pony Clubs, one of which, the Leatherstocking Pony Club, she founded and generously gave of her time to the youth members and their families, and shared the Price family equine facility at Hawthorne Hill in Otego, NY. Equally, as a USDF Associate Instructor, she generously shared her expertise and love for the sport with many, leaving a lasting impact on the equestrian community.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Frederick J. Price; her brother, Glenn Boekell; her sons, Brian and his husband Edward Wysocki, Sean and his wife Tracy, Kevin and his wife Betsey; and her cherished granddaughter, Joleen Contillo.

Estelle will be remembered by family and friends for her unwavering love, strength, and dedication. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date to honor her enduring legacy.
