Ethel H. Wickham

Ethel H. Wickham of Oneonta, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Friday January 1, 2021 at Basset Hospital in Cooperstown.
Ethel was born in Jersey Shore, PA to Emerson and Agnes (Webster) Herman on October 17, 1927. She moved to Stamford, NY with her parents where she graduated from Stamford Central School. Upon graduation, she attended the Mildred Elley School in Albany where she majored in business.
Upon her return to Stamford, she met her husband of 52 years Stanley F. Wickham. They wed on May 19, 1951 in Stamford and moved to Oneonta where they raised their daughters, Diane and Claudia, and became active members of their community.
Ethel worked for over three decades for the New York Telephone Company ending her career in 1982 as a supervisor.
Ethel and Stanley were members of the Telephone Company Pioneers, joined Elm Park United Methodist Church and remained members until her passing. Ethel also served as a member of the Elm Park Board for many years.
She was an avid reader, enjoyed quilting, knitting, sewing, traveling and board games with her friends at the Plains.
Ethel is survived by her daughters Diane C. Gómez and her husband David of New York City and Claudia Webber Grosse and her husband Henry Grosse of Fort Myers, Florida, her grandchildren Cristina E. Gómez and her husband Ivan Calderon of Chicago. IL, Julia T. Gómez of New York City, Victoria C. Wood and her husband Steven Wood of New York City, Alexander E. Webber and his wife Dana Jo of Phoenix, AZ, Alyssa P. Webber and her fiancé Michael J. Thomas of San Diego, CA, her great grandchildren David Stanley Calderon and Idalia Jane Calderon of Chicago, IL, Steven Robert Wood of New York City and Mac James Webber of Phoenix, AZ.
She was the loving wife of Stanley F. Wickham of Oneonta, the daughter of Emerson and Agnes Herman of Stamford, and sister of Marjorie Hartzel and brothers, Leon Herman and John Herman, who all predeceased her.
A celebration of Ethel’s life will take place in summer 2021.

It's not how long you live on earth that matters but the quality of life that you lived that does matters. You lived a good life and left a legacy and fingerprint in our hearts. It hurts to say goodbye to one of the most amazing being on earth but with a greatful heart to God for Blessing us with you to cause massive impact in our lives.

I worked for Ethel Wickham for at least 15 years. We were sent to work in Utica together. Thank God she was with us. She was our Rock. Thank you Ethel being our ground. A great person. My condolences and prayers for peace for Family.
