Harvey O. Archer

He was born in Hamden, New York on June 18, 1911, the son of the late John and LaEtta (Gavett) Archer. On January 17, 1943 he was married to his beloved, Ada, in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania. The couple enjoyed 50 years of marriage until her passing on March 8, 1993.

For 32 years, Harvey worked as an inspector at Bendix Aviation in Sidney, where he was very proud of being involved in the Gemini and Apollo projects. As an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing, gardening, and just being out in nature. He also enjoyed reading, traveling, and exploring the genealogy of his family. Most of all, he loved to tell stories about his life experiences.

His greatest joy was spending time with his family, whom he loved very much.

Harvey is survived by his children, Olon T. (Madeline) Archer of Oneonta, Robert W. (Debra) Archer of Maryland, and Cheryl A. (Thomas) Molineux of Clifton Park; his step children, William Hall Sr. of Elizabeth Manor Nursing Home, Binghamton, Howard (Gloria) Hall of Unadilla, Barbara (Howard) Witter of Endicott, and Oscar (Sharon) Pierce of Eatonville, Washington; many grandchildren and step grandchildren; many many great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert W. Archer and Clayton T. Archer Sr.; his sisters, Mabel Bliss and Delilah McCullion; and his step son, Norris “Red” (Alberta) Hall.

Friends and family may call from 11am to 1pm on Friday, March 9, 2012 at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta, at which time the family will be in attendance.

A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Friday, March 9, 2012 at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta, with the Rev. Cynthia Walton, officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family, in the Riverside Cemetery, Bloomville.

Harvey’s family would like to thank the staff and residents at Hampshire House and Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Home, where his stories were thoroughly enjoyed.
