Helena G. Roman

Helena was born in Cohoes on October 15, 1928, the daughter of Georges Henri and Helena Margaret (Wagner) Giroux. She married Michael W. Roman on October 14, 1950, and he predeceased her on July 28, 2008.

Helena was a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy. She attended the College of St. Rose in Albany, the Cohoes Conservatory of Music, and SUNY Oneonta.

Helena had a great passion for music, as she was a charter member of the Catskill Choral Society, and at one time performed with the Saratoga-Potsdam Chorus.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, the Rosary Society, and sang in the choir for more than 60 years.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Rein, and her husband, Eugene of Rotterdam, Kathryn Tsoukatos, and her husband, Michael of Clarendon, Margaret Linkous of Erie, Pennsylvania, and Susanne O’Donnell, and her husband, James of Oneonta; 12 grandchildren, Erik Rein, Rebecca O’Connor (Brian), and Cynthia Rein, Michelle and Andrew Tsoukatos, Aaron Linkous, Stephanie Pierce, Danielle Linkous, and Amanda Aldrich (Bill), James S. O’Donnell (Leslie), Shaun O’Donnell (Elizabeth), and Adam O’Donnell. and 10 great grandchildren; a brother, George Giroux of Cohoes; her brother-in-law, Joseph Roman of Oneonta, and a sister-in-law, Donna Giroux of Schuylerville, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Giroux, and a grandson, Edward J. O’Donnell.

A funeral mass will be offered at 10:15 am on Monday, October 7, 2013 at St. Mary’s Church, 39 Walnut Street, Oneonta with Rev. David Mickiewicz, officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Friends may call at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, on Sunday, October 6, 2013 from 2 to 5 pm at which time the family will be in attendance.
