She was born May 20, 1934 in Oneonta the daughter of the late Ora and Irma Belle (Steenrod) Sullivan.
Hilda was a homecare provider. She cared for many of her family members and also community members.
Hilda was a woman of many talents, she was an excellent yodeler, cake decorator, dancer and sewer. She used to go to the Button and Bows Square Dances and would make her own costumes. Some of the most fondest memories her grandchildren have of her is Hilda teaching them how to bake cookies and make candy. She enjoyed being a den mother when her son was in Boy Scouts, jig saw puzzles, watching old movies, tending to her flower beds and playing monopoly, scrabble and cards. There were many pitch games played at Hilda’s home. She had a love of music and always encouraged her children to play music. At times she would have a house full of neighborhood kids rehearsing their music.
She was a member of the West Oneonta Baptist Church, and the West Oneonta Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Hilda is survived by her daughter, Connie Place-Martin (Thomas), West Oneonta; son, Steve Decker and companion, Connie Manon, West Oneonta; 12 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister, Beatrice Holmes, Stannardville, VA; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Chris Decker and brothers, Lyle and James Sullivan.
Hilda’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Catskill Area Hospice for their warm and compassionate care given to Hilda and her family.
There will be no calling hours. Family is invited to pay their respects at the memorial flower garden at Hilda’s home. In lieu of cut flowers, family is invited to bring a live flower or seeds to plant in the memorial garden. For those who wish memorial donations may be made to Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 297 River Street Service Road, Oneonta, New York 13820 in loving memory of Hilda Leora Decker.
