James Joseph Hasbrouck

James was predeceased by his beloved wife, Patricia Hasbrouck, and his son, James Smith Hasbrouck.

He is survived by his loving children: Chris Hasbrouck (Beth) of Oneonta, NY; Kenneth Hasbrouck (Melinda) of Hartwick, NY; and John Stiber (Heather) of Tampa, FL. Shawn Hasbrouck of Delhi, NY. He was a proud grandfather to Ryan Hasbrouck of South Kortright, NY; Tyler Hasbrouck (Serenity) of Sharon Springs, NY; Alexis Hasbrouck of Oneonta, NY; Justin, Corey, and Courtney Hasbrouck, all of Delhi, NY; Lauren McAdams (Dylan) of Unadilla, NY; Nicholas Carpenter of Charlotte, NC; Morgan Carpenter (Chris) of Unadilla, NY; Amber Berger (Dan) of Hartwick; Austin Nieves of Hartwick, NY; and Kaitlyn Conrad of St. Johnsville, NY. He was also a cherished great-grandfather to Madeline, Kennedy, Hadley, and Louise.

James is further survived by his brothers, William Sprague of Hamden, NY; Bobby Sprague of Delhi, NY.

James lived in South Kortright for over 44 years and was known for his dedication to his community and his work. He retired from The Allen Residential Center in South Kortright, where he spent many years serving others. Alongside his wife Patricia, he operated a foster home in Delaware County, offering care, guidance, and a safe haven to many children in need. His service to the community also included time as an animal control officer for the town of Stamford and as a corrections officer at the Delaware County Jail.

A compassionate and kind-hearted man, James had a deep love for animals and provided a home to many pets over the years. He enjoyed listening to music, watching classic Western movies, and spending time playing cards with family—moments that will be fondly remembered by those who loved him.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in James’s memory to the Heart of the Catskills Animal Shelter in Delhi, NY.

James will be remembered for his sense of humor, generosity, his quiet strength, and his unwavering commitment to family and community.
