She was born Sept. 1, 1944, in Oneonta, the daughter of the late James A. Jr. and Jennie (Himes) Spence.
A lifelong area resident, Jayne graduated from Milford Central School and went on to receive a bachelor's degree in elementary education from SUNY Oneonta.
She taught third grade at Walton Central School for 32 years before her retirement in 1998.
Jayne is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, James Jr. and Beth Spence of Goodyear Lake; one niece, Jana Page; one nephew, Rick (Deseree) Spence; great-nieces and great-nephews, Jana's children, Alex and Abigail Gutierrez, Rick's children, Michael and Keagan Spence and Deseree's son; Andrew Mickel, a great-great-niece, Alex's daughter; Everly; as well as many dear cousins too numerous to name individually.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 15, at the funeral home with the Rev. Stephen Fournier officiating. Burial will follow in the Cooperstown Junction Cemetery in Cooperstown Junction.
