Jean Ann Rasbach Scholet
October 10, 1922 – March 16, 2018
Jean Ann Rasbach Scholet passed away March 16, 2018 in Oneonta, NY. Born October 10, 1922 in Mohawk, NY, she was the daughter of Daniel Ford Rasbach and Alice Howell Rasbach of Mohawk, NY.
Jean was Valedictorian of her class in Mohawk. She briefly attended Principia College in Elsah, IL and Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY.
Jean married her childhood sweetheart, Richard (Dick) Scholet on February 3, 1946 in Albany, NY and was happily married for 64 years. They lived in Cobleskill, NY where they owned and operated Scholet Furniture until 1989. After retiring, they lived in Richmondville, NY until 2010. When Jean’s husband passed that year, Jean moved to The Plains in Oneonta where she lived until December 2017. Jean is survived by their three children: Arthur (Diane) Scholet, Thomas (Karen) Scholet, and Cosanne “Cosy” (Scott) Schneberger; five grandchildren: Art’s – Meggan (Stephen) Flaherty, Sara Beth Newell; Tom’s – Erick (Sharon) Scheminske, Emily McFerren; and Cosy’s – Sunny Schneberger; and four great-grandchildren: Katja and Gavin Flaherty, and Regan and Parker Scheminske.
The Scholet family camp in the Adirondacks on Big Moose Lake, built by Jean’s father, was her lifelong haven and family retreat. She was a member of the Christian Science Society in Cobleskill and Oneonta and played the organ for the church in Cobleskill for many years. Jean volunteered at the Cobleskill Public Library. She and Dick square danced for years with the Schoharie Valley Hayshakers and both were active for over 20 years with the group in Cobleskill known as The Coby Walkers. In her later years, she was publicly known in Oneonta for knitting creative, colorful shawls. She was a devoted wife and exceptionally loving mother. Her family and friends remember her as a warm, wonderful, generous, and always active person who blessed many over her nine decades.
A memorial service will be planned this summer.

What a wonderful matriarch of an outstanding extended family Jean was! Our parents were so close for so many years that the Scholet's became like a second family during our early years. We have many fond memories of visits to Cobleskill and Big Moose with Dick and Jean, along with Art, Tom and Cosy. Jean truly was the warm and loving mother who made everyone feel like part of the family. I had not realized she was Valedictorian of her high school class, but I do remember her as a skilled card player, so not surprised by that revelation! Most of all I remember what a great married partnership she and Dick presented in all aspects of their personal, business and church lives...a wonderful example for the rest of us to aspire to. I would like to imagine Jean, Dick and our parents Jane and Eric reunited and reflecting on their well-lived lives sharing their wisdom and love with the rest of us !
All our best to Art, Tom and Cosy from the Essen guys ...who will always have a special place in our hearts for Jean and Dick.

Our sincerest sympathy to all of you. We will always cherish your mother's infectious smile, her friendship and all the wonderful times at Big Moose as well as all the fun playing games with the Coby Walkers. What a special lady.
