Jennie H. Spence

She was born January 26, 1919 in Sharon Springs, the daughter of the late Andrew Himes, Sr. and Goldie (Graham) Himes.

Jennie graduated from Oneonta High School.

On August 12, 1943, Jennie married James A. Spence, Sr. James predeceased her on July 18, 1986.

During the war, Jennie worked at the Mica Plant in Oneonta. She then was a maid at the Oneonta Hotel and later worked at Sears at the catalog desk until her retirement.

She made her home at Goodyear Lake since 1945. She was a very loving mother and loved the time spent with her children, grandchildren and her great grandchildren.

Jennie was a member of the Home Bureau.

Jennie is survived by her two children, Jayne Spence of Goodyear Lake and James A. Spence, Jr. and his wife, Beth of Goodyear Lake; two grandchildren, Jana Page and her husband, Mike of Portlandville and Rick Spence of Goodyear Lake; four great grandchildren, Alex, Abby, Michael and Keagan; three sisters, Catherine Newell of Norwich, Edith Catella of Oneonta and Dorothy Himes of Sidney; sister-in-law, Beth Himes of AZ; special niece, Judy Knapp of Milford; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, Andrew Himes, Jr., Wilbur Himes, Richard Himes and Gerald Himes; four brothers-in-law, John Newell, Fred Catella, Bob Miller and Clifford Hoffman; sister-in-law, Bertha Himes; and a niece, Linda Catella.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 15, 2013 in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 10:00 AM with the Reverend David Rockwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Cooperstown Junction Cemetery, Cooperstown Junction. Memorial donations in Jennie’s name may be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association, Northeastern NY Chapter, The Meadows, Suite 2, 140 County Highway 33W, Cooperstown, New York 13326 or to Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 20 Elm Street, Delhi, New York 13753.
