John Noel Pfleiderer
December 25, 1934 – February 19, 2021
After a life well lived, John Noel Pfleiderer left us on Friday, February 19, 2021.
He was born on December 25, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York and while growing up there he developed a curiosity and passion for all things with engines, especially airplanes and trains.
After graduating from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1953, he attended City College and dedicated his service in The Army National Guard for 17 years.
On May 29, 1965 he married Anita Vacarro. Noel and Anita had first met when they were fourteen. They both lived in Flatbush and attended many dances and parties together as teenagers. They reunited in 1963, fell in love, and enjoyed 52 years of marriage.
In 1967 John began teaching at James Madison High School in New York City. What began as temporary work turned into an extraordinary thirty year teaching career during which he was known as “Mr. Fly.” He developed and instructed the Marine Vocational program at Beach Channel High School where he generously gave his time and talent to thousands of students who found themselves well employed as a result of Mr. Fly’s vocational instruction. Toward the end of his career, he returned to his Alma Mater, Brooklyn Technical High School, where he taught aerospace dynamics.
In 1972 Noel and Anita moved to Farmingdale, Long Island where they raised their three children, pursued their interests, and embraced their community. In 1993 they retired to Otego, New York where they bought the Victorian home of their dreams and explored and celebrated all the beauty of Upstate, New York.
During Noel’s lifetime, he was deeply dedicated to The Boy Scouts of America and Sea Scouts of New York City. During the latter part of his life he was a member of The Oneonta R/C Flyer’s club.
Noel was dedicated to his beloved sister, Terese Bente, who deeply grieves this loss. He will be dearly missed by his three children, Larry Pfleiderer, Ann Ieva, and Elaine Conroy. Noel adored his six grandchildren Michael, Daniel, Adam, Kristin, Joseph and John and sang their praise every day. He is predeceased by his wife, who died in 2017.

We were so blessed to have known you and Anita as members of our club but more importantly as our friends. You were both so very special and we are going to miss you so much. We were blessed to have you in our lives and know that you will never be forgotten and that we have many wonderful memories to keep you close.
Watch over our men as they fly their planes and keep them out of the trees and bring them safely to the ground.
Love you our friend,
Steve and Lori Fyfe
