She was born Aug. 26, 1953, in Teaneck, New Jersey, the daughter of Nick and Dorothy Fontana. She graduated from Bergenfield HS in 1971. She attended the State University at Oneonta and earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education in 1975. She was a member of the Oneonta State field hockey, volleyball, and softball teams, as well as Alpha Kappa Phi sorority.
On Sept 9, 1978, June married the love of her life, Al Adams. Together they raised three daughters in New Milford, New Jersey.
June taught mathematics at New Milford HS for 11 years before eventually relocating to Oneonta, where she taught math at Oneonta High School for five years.
June made friends easily wherever she went and lived life to the fullest. She was a devoted wife, beloved mother and grandmother and cherished friend to many. She made each holiday special with her decorations and the bounty of food she prepared. No Fourth of July celebration was complete without sampling some of her USA Jell-O mold or strawberry shortcake.
In her leisure time she enjoyed playing softball and golf, dining out with her friends, and watching Jeopardy each evening. She would often shout out the correct answer before the show's contestants.
Her friends knew her as a skilled mahjong player who rarely turned down an opportunity to play. She was an avid reader, as well as a sudoku and crossword puzzle enthusiast. She enjoyed traveling with her family and friends and especially looked forward to her annual trips to Disney World.
She will be missed by her family and many friends whose lives were enriched by her generosity, thoughtfulness, and good humor.
June is survived by her husband, Al; her children, Cori (Jake) Tucker, Nicolette (Steve) Werner and Amy (James) Leech; grandchildren, Madison, Emilee, Hayden, Mackenzie and AJ; and her sister, Gaye Stroud.
There will be a service to celebrate June's life at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 2, at Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St. in Oneonta. Her family will be in attendance.
