He was born April 2, 1936 in Jefferson, NY the son of the late Erich and Helen (Austin) Vogel.
Karl graduated from Draper Central School, Schenevus. Following graduation he enlisted with the Oneonta National Guard from 1953 to 1961.
On November 1957, Karl married Esther M. Loucks in Oneonta. Together they shared 60 years of marriage.
Karl began working for Winnie Hill Lumber Company from 1957-1968. He then went to work for Spaulding Bakeries from 1968-1982 as a route salesman. Then in 1982 he bought his own route with Stroemanns Bakery until his retirement in 2005. Karl also worked as a funeral assistant with the Bookhout Funeral Home from 2000-2016.
Karl served on the District 3 Republican Party Committee for 5 years and served on the Milford Town Board for over 20 years as a Councilman. He was also the president and caretaker of the Maryland Cemetery from 1977-2017.
Karl was a very hard worker. He was never one to sit still for very long he always found something to keep him busy.
He was a member of the man to man group; volunteered for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life; and a volunteer for the Goodyear Lake Association.
Karl is survived by his wife, Esther Vogel, Oneonta; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Aimee Vogel, Oneonta; 4 granddaughters, Kitana, Leia, Miranda and Natalia; 2 sisters, Rose and Tony Lombardo, Schenevus and Marie and Ray Ballard, Bainbridge; 2 sisters-in-law, Thelma Harrison, West Oneonta and Elaine Loucks, Wells Bridge; 2 brothers-in-law, Gerald and Angie Loucks, Otego and Julian Hanson, Maryland; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by 2 daughters, Patricia and Connie Vogel; 1 sister-in-law, Hilda Hanson; 3 brothers-in-law, Glen, William and Clayton Loucks.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 11:00 am in the funeral home with the Rev. Mel Farmer officiating. Burial will be in the Maryland Cemetery.
