Madeline Seger (nee Kump), 89, an extraordinary woman living an exemplary life, who made all things bright and beautiful, passed away peacefully in her home at the Little Red School Community in Oneonta, New York.

She was born October 14th, 1930, in Queens, New York, the daughter of the late Matthew Kump and Louise (Matzelle) Kump. At age 5, she met her lifetime best friend, Ellen Portanova (Markey) and they remained close for the next 85 years. As a devout Catholic, Madeline entered the convent at age 19 to continue her religious studies. Although she left after a year, she remained devoted to her Catholic faith and was deeply dedicated to reciting the rosary daily.

In 1955, Madeline met the love of her life, George Seger Jr. Two years later, they began a beautiful marriage that lasted for 60 years. Their relationship was one of the greatest love stories that was an inspiration to all who knew them. Throughout the next 7 years, she gave birth to her 6 children who she raised to be, just like her, compassionate and generous. While raising her kids, she continued to show them the importance of facing adversity with dignity and calmness. She will continue to guide us divinely from Heaven.

Mom left this world her greatest joys, her loving children: George (Annie), Madeline (deceased), Christopher (April), Nancy (Bob), Marylou (Maryellen, deceased), Claire (Jim). She also was the proud grandmother of Jennon, Ryan, Brett (deceased), Justtice, Alexander, Emma, Caitlyn, Kirwin, Paige, Farrell, James, and Quinn; great-grandchildren, McKenna and Jenna.

Madeline was predeceased by her siblings, Lucy, Elizabeth, George, Mary, and Albert.

Madeline’s family expresses their sincere appreciation to Dawn and Tina of AM-PM Home Health Care for the wonderful care and compassion that they have given to the entire Seger family. Without them it wouldn't have been possible for Madeline to pass away peacefully and with dignity at her home.

You are the leader in our family and you led with kindness, compassion, wisdom, spirituality and love. You were my first friend, nurse, teacher, nutritionist and therapist. The world was a positive place because you were in it. You saw good in all people. I am so thankful and blessed to have you in my life for 55 years. It was such an honor to be your daughter. Mom, you make all things bright and beautiful!

My wonderful mother in law was one of a kind. When see was in a room she made it come alive. There are so many things I want to say and share I don’t know where to start. She taught me have to be more compassionate, how to be a good mom and how to make her recipe for chicks and rice. Mom will be with her parents, my fabulous, intelligent and funny father in law and her first born daughter, Madlyn. I am so elated that she and her first born son, my husband George had a great visit the week before she when Home. She raised 6 hardworking, compassionate, and faith based children. I will miss her forever and love her for always.
