

She was born May 19, 1923 in Franklin the daughter of the late Dwight and Katherine (Mabey) Sanly.
Margaret graduated from Franklin Central School and Hartwick College. She began her teaching career at Franklin Central School as a vocal music teacher, and later taught at the Oneonta Middle/High School where she retired from as well as St. Mary’s Catholic School as a reading teacher. In addition, she taught at SUNY Oneonta in the Student Learning Center working with students in writing and teaching a class to improve their study skills. She was especially proud of the many operettas that she conducted and produced with her students while teaching music.
On August 3, 1946, Margaret married Donald Conant in Franklin. Donald predeceased her on February 10, 1999.
Margaret enjoyed spending time with her family playing the piano, violin and the saxophone in a small musical group that once played on the boardwalk in Atlantic City. She also enjoyed polka music, sewing, knitting, crocheting and she loved her cats. Margaret was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was very sweet, compassionate and a friend to all always putting the needs of others ahead of herself.
She will be deeply and forever missed by her family and all who knew her.
Margaret is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Wilber and Jane Conant; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Tom) Brown and Jeffrey (Deja) Wilber; four great grandchildren, Austin Brown, Shawndra Brown and Fiance, Nathan Winton, Mariana Wilber and Jeffrey, Jr, Wilber; one nephew, Dwight (Ann) Decker and their children, Katherine and Andrew Decker; and her former son-in-law, Keith (Pam) Wilber; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by her sister, Jean Decker and great granddaughter, Maris Wilber.
A joint graveside memorial service with her sister will be held on Monday, June 28, 2021 at 11:00 am in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.
