Maryanna Gregory-Snyder of Westford, MA, and formerly of West Oneonta passed away Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Bridges Memory Care in Westford at the age 81. She was surrounded by care, compassion, and her family.
She was the daughter of the late Vincent Dedrick and Maryanna Christine (Hmielenski) Suhr, and the older sister to her two brothers: William Suhr of Lindenhurst, NY and the late Richard Suhr of Merrick, NY. She was predeceased by her husband, Bruce Snyder
She was a loving mother to her children: Shane Gregory and his wife, Claudia of Ashburn, VA; Kimberly (Gregory) Koehr and her husband, Matthew of Westford, MA. Katie Miner of Newfield, NY; and Bruce Snyder and his wife Kimberly (Haar) Snyder, of Jacksonville, FL.
She was a cherished grandmother to her many grandchildren: Grayson Gregory; Ethan, Aidan, and Avery Koehr; Faith, Harmony, Blessing, Honour, and Warrior Miner; and Dustin and Kylee Snyder.
Maryanna was born August 12, 1944, in Macon, Georgia. She grew up in Merrick, NY, spending her days at Jones Beach and attending Broadway shows with her many aunts. She enrolled at SUNY Oneonta where she earned both a Bachelor's and Master's degrees of Science in Elementary Education at SUNY Oneonta.
She was a teacher for 42 years; 39 of those years at Sidney Elementary, where she made many friends and was voted (or self-proclaimed) the best-dressed teacher at the school. Maryanna loved putting together outfits and shopping, which often became a sport, speed walking through the mall and exhausting her children who were trying to keep up.
She would never leave the house without a stylish outfit, perfect hair, and impeccable makeup. Some teased that if the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night, she would make it out perfectly ready for the day! It did not matter what she wore though, as her smile would always light up the room, showing her beauty both inside and out.
Maryanna was the biggest supporter and cheerleader for her children. As an athlete herself, she would swim seventy-seven laps multiple times a week at Hartwick College setting a strong workout ethic for her kids. She was always there for every event in life, never missing a game or school event, documenting every achievement and creating scrapbooks for each child. She even purchased a van to help drive her children’s teams to tournaments. She instilled strength, humor, resilience, accountability, family values, and a sense of community through her actions.
Her proudest moments were her children’s weddings and the births of her grandchildren. She was always interested in how well her grandchildren were doing in school and even when she could no longer attend her grandchildren’s games, her first questions were always about who played, what sport, and how they did that game.
When her children were grown, every visit to the home was a welcoming time filled with homemade food, gathered around her large dining room table. Despite her children living in different states, she always had at least three refrigerators full of food for every visit. She loved to cook, and holiday meals were an all-day event, with all of the family participating in a day-long marathon of cooking. Every Christmas morning was welcomed with her traditional danish pastry; a recipe and tradition that will be carried on by her children.
A faithful follower of St. Mary’s Church. Maryanna was an Eucharistic Minister, member of the funeral hospitality team, and member of the Rosary Society, who provided a constant stream of cards and support in the last year to both her and her daughter Kim. She was also a member of the Oneonta Business Women’s Club.
Maryanna cherished living in Oneonta, being involved, and the friends she made along the way. As she ascends into heaven we know she will always be looking over us.
