
He was born May 20, 1920 in Davenport the son of George E. and Florence (Odell) Squaires. He married Olga Panko on January 2, 1943 in St. James Church, Oneonta. She predeceased him in 2010.
He retired as an equipment operator for the NYS Dept of Transportation based out of Oneonta.
He was a member of St. James Church, a fifty year member of the Oneonta Moose Lodge 465.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working in the woods.
He is survived by his grandchildren, Bryan Squaires of Oneonta, Michelle Gabriele and her husband, Mark of Lewiston, NY, Scott Squaires and his wife, Melissa of Dayton, NY, and Sherry Showalter and her husband, Steve of Charlotte, NC.
He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Kaleb Squaires, Maria Lynne and Michael Gabriele, Nina and Ellen Squaires, and Tyler and Max Showalter; two sisters, Thelma Rosa of Oneonta, and Christina Banner of North Carolina, as well as several nieces, nephews, and a daughter-in-law, Betsy Squaires of Lewiston, NY.
He was predeceased by two sons, Gary and Paul Squaires.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta, with the Rev. Kenneth Hunter, rector of St. James Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to service time on Tuesday.
The family wishes to invite friends to a luncheon following the committal service at the Sixth Ward AC, West Broadway, Oneonta.
