Paul Vincent Baldo

September 14, 1951October 1, 2014

Paul Vincent Baldo, 63, of Oneonta, passed away on Wednesday October 1, 2014 at his residence.

He was born on September 14, 1951 in Oneonta, the son of Patsy P. and Edith (Johnson) Baldo.

Our brother was a kind and caring soul. He was spiritual and prayed often.

Paul was very creative and loved the arts, and was accomplished at playing the guitar. In his teenage years, he put together a band called The Baritones. A lover of music, he especially favored the Beatles, and Cat Stevens.

Paul enjoyed horror movies, as well as writing and directing award winning short films.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, the Young Republican’s Club, and was very proud of attending a rally in support of Richard Nixon’s Presidential Campaign.

He was a sports enthusiast, and was quite a statistician in the area of baseball and football. He loved the Yankees, and the NY Giants, and planned his time around their games, so as not to miss them.

Paul was a lover of cats, and treated them like his children.

He had a gentle chuckle and a good sense of humor. His wit was quick and to the point. That’s what we will miss the most.

He is survived by his sisters and brothers, Elizabeth Simmons of Albany, Nancy McCarthy of Malta, Anthony M. Baldo of Fair Lawn, N.J., Donald E. Baldo of Newtown Square, PA., and Diana Goodier of Knoxville, TN.

He is also survived by an aunt, Lucy Gaisford of Unadilla, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held Friday, October 10, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta with Janice Hinkley, St. Mary’s Church, Spiritual Care Coordinator, officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Paul was honored by being selected Captain of his Kiwanis Grasshopper Baseball Team. His teammates selected him to bestow this honor on behalf of the team. He was respected and loved by his Kiwanis Baseball Team. So sorry for his passing.

Paul was nothing if not imperturbable, effervescent and often a serene adolescent. He was a great friend to all who knew him. He began making movies as a teenager with his east end neighborhood clan and appeared in “The New York Hat” with sitting New York State Senator Jim Seward and “Death Island” with Marilyn Wells, both directed by John Brent and produced by Doug Weideman. His passage reminds us of the good times as teenagers. To Paul's family and friends, so sorry for your loss.

Lee, Nancy, Diana, Don and Anthony - My cousin Paul was and will always be a beautiful soul. I have memories of us all growing up and how close we've tried to stay even though miles separate us. Paul will always be in my heart.
